Introduction

Dr Bax has been a paediatrician for over 40 years. He was one of the pioneers of community paediatrics and brought a scholarly approach to the subject. He has inspired many paediatricians and has developed an active and productive research group.

Dr Bax was for many years senior editor of the Mac Keith Press, publishers of the journal of Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology and the book series 'Clinics in Developmental Medicine'.  Until recently he was chairperson of the European Academy for Childhood Disibility (EACD) and is currently president of The Society for the Study of Behavioural Phenotypes (SSBP).

His most recent research projects are the Multicentre Cerebral Palsy Study and a study of Autism and Epilepsy.  Papers have been published on these projects.
